Has anyone tried Subnautica yet?

I picked this up about a month ago when it was a very raw alpha and it is finally starting to have some neat things in it. The game is sort of a graphic rich underwater minecraft set on an alien planet in an alien ocean.

It is made by the crew that made Natural Selection 2.

They recently added away to craft the pictured submarine. It is very huge, but I have not made it yet.

This is what the oceans look like in game:

All the lifeforms are alien.

I've been playing it this past weekend, I never really got into the whole minecraft scene, but this game has been pretty cool with the crafting and other stuff in it. I've built quite a bit of stuff in it, and I am pretty close to building the larger submarine.

I got into it for about 10 hours worth. Fun as a concept, but once you've seen what is has to offer, there isn't much to do afterwards.

In all...I'd say it's worth what I paid for it. Several hours of good entertainment, and a beautiful underwater environment.

It is a really well put together idea that is still in alpha/early access, the main criticism with the game is that it doesn't take too long to get through the tech tree for everything, especially if you read up on the game play on the wiki, you can blow through all the content really in 10 or so hours.

It's bloody cool in the Rift DK2 as well, that's quite an experience although really just a demo mode, you can't build/collect like that, but it's neat swimming around and exploring.

It's something I probably wont revisit until it's completed, incremental updates aren't normally enough to get me interested enough to play again the content just dribbles slowly out, I'd honestly wait for launch/release.

Frankie has done some cool vids on this which I recommend if you're interested in the game:

Bumping this because I grabbed the game last night. Just spent a few minutes poking around the liferaft and I was pretty damn impressed by the underwater ambiance. Of course I died pretty soon due to dehydration while trying to find a common coral sample so I could make some bleach and purify some water. Planning to start a new game tonight.

Anyone else played it?

It took me forever to build a very basic home, with one compartment. You gotta do LOTS of work to get there, even on Easy mode.

Also the game doesnt let me build a vehicle, even when I have everything needed. That glitch is holding me back, a lot.

And like most other survival games, once you build a home and each of the vehicles, theres not much to do.

When it gets finished it might be playable, but I would hold off for a while if I didnt own it already.

I've had fun playing it so far, but I would assume there is a wall out there somewhere given its early access status. From what I read the devs are pretty active, and anyway it's definitely cool enough to drop $20 on imo.

I've started this recently and it's a great game. Beautiful and relaxing environments, and the crafting and story are about right. Easy to recommend.

I used to play this but it's been a long time. I think it supports VR now so I have been meaning to check it out again.

I picked it up last time it was on sale for $10. It's a great 10-15 hours experience, mostly because of the creativity of the first few biomes and the great music, but it doesn't seem like it's ever going to grow into a more complete game. The updates are coming very slowly, and don't have very much interesting new content.

Still definitely worth playing for what it is (especially for $10)

Its had VR support for a while. In that time they also added more goodies, and more regions to explore.
Yeah I know. I see the updates. I just haven't found the time to load it up and give it another go. I only put about 4.5 hours into it last year I think? I was bored pretty quick but I know they have added a lot since I last played.

ive been watching this game for a long time, it seems to me that progress is very very slow. Not sure this one will ever turn into a full game.

It is scheduled for full release in May last I saw. They've been adding in more of the story bits lately. Its definately worth $20 but has been on sale for $10. I took a chance on it and it got me hooked a couple of months ago.
