Has anyone tried Outlook.com?

I use Microsoft Outlook religiously at work and home. So, I figured I'd tried using the new Outlook.com. I know it's not related to the standalone software but I was bored tonight. But in order to create a new account, Outlook.com had to pass a simple test: I just wanted to use my last name (when I started using gmail I set it up with my full name and was shocked it was available). IT WORKED. Gone are the days where I had to have extra letters and numbers added to my name in order to get an account. It's so simple. Now comes my questions:

1. What can I do with this new email address? I don't want to make it a junk account (already have my other personal gmail account for that) but I also want to use it.

2. Is Outlook as good as Gmail? Better?

3. What features does it have that Gmail does not?

4. Can the gmail Android app add this outlook.com account?

I have a Hotmail account for all sites I expect to cause spam. Checked it yesterday after reading about it and it didn't transfer anything or even ask about it, it still gave me the regular Hotmail. And from what I read about it Outlook.com is not going to provide me with anything I want anyway as I don't use Facebook or Twitter and don't plan to either, so I don't want 'Social media' spam next to the mails.

I like it a lot, except for:
-Cannot view attached PDF files online. I have to download the PDF files to hard drive first.

Maybe I'm doing it wrong?

Another problem is if I try to search for outlook.com issues, I will invariably get results mostly for Outlook.

Switched my hotmail.com account to Outlook.com. I like it. Haven't looked at any difference between it and Outlook. :awe:

Wow, someone insulting another member here.

I've used it a bit. I think I like it more than gmail now that I think about it.. I don't like composing in gmail. Most emails I write I do a draft then come back a few minutes later, maybe multiple times (I send a lot of intro type emails). Gmail has a pop up window that forces you to send or get out. So I'll actually compose in word then paste

You also can't frame the text easily in gmail. I like to size the window to normal email reading size

My hotmail account got switched to it. It's fine I suppose, the sweep/filters are pretty handy. I also have 5 additional aliases set up with it for various things. But honestly...what's with all these people who actually use the websites? I use Live Mail on the laptop and desktop, and my phone otherwise...I very rarely ever visit either Hotmail/Outlook or Gmail web interfaces.

Yes, it's actually really good.

I'm considering switching to it completely from Gmail, because the Google+ stuff (I closed my G+ account because I didn't like it & didn't use it) is starting to drive me nuts with advertisements everywhere.

And it's amazing how deep the rabbit hole goes...I changed my user picture to something random and change my display name in Gmail to something random, just to see where it would pop up as I surfed the web...and it turned out to be EVERYWHERE :p And constantly pestering me with G+ limited previews, messages, and suggestions. Yuck!

My hotmail transferred to it with no problems. Matter of fact since I don't use web mail for anything fancy, it's nearly the same thing except for all the blue now.

Just tried to make a new account and ran into an annoyance. It only checks if the name you picked is available after you enter the captcha.

I like it. Have been using it since it was first released. Managed to grab a few e-mail addresses @outlook.com that I might have missed out on otherwise.

Whatever that little popup box is I hate writing in it
poerhaps your using something else...
I have never had a pop up windiow associated with my gmail....I write my letter and then I save it and I come back later and do what needs to be done...
