I know this is asking a lot (probably too much), but has anyone here tried onboard RAID 5 with any of the latest Intel boards? I'm tossing around the idea of building a huge RAID 5 array (with 4 or 5 drives) and I figure if I can save a few bucks by using an onboard Intel controller then I'll pass on the expensive add-in card. It would be for storage purposes only, so blazing speed isnt much of an issue.
So, three main questions:
1. Does anyone here have experience with RAID 5 on an integrated controller?
2. Can any of the latest Intel/Nvidia chipsets handle more than 4 drives in a RAID 5 array.
3. If so, how well does it work? Any bugs, incompatibilities, etc.
Thanks,
