Gravity inversion works, very simple by stretching (decompressing) the spine. Most back pain is caused by either a herniated disc (I have this...L4/L5 :() or a nerve being pinched between two vertebrae.

When you're inverted, the vertebrae are pulled away from whatever they are compressing, giving temporary relief. How long "your" relief lasts is entirely subjective and varies widely from case to case.

I've been going to a Chiropractor for almost two years now. I get adjusted every two weeks and usually get electro-stim/heat therapy on my lumbro-sacral area. Eventually, I will need surgery, but I am not messing with that until I literally cannot get out of bed.

Yep, they invert you.

yes, but do they relieve back pain? :p

I was just playing with you. In all honesty I do want one myself. I'd imagine it's relaxing.

It is. :) Especially when you first get "turned over." You kind of "shrug" your weight downward and your spine goes *pop-pop-pop-pop-pop!* Feels GOOD. :D

Michael, do you have a bar across your door with the boots?

I've seen a table for several hundred, and the bar/boots would be cheaper but a pain to install.

Get the book "The New Back Doctor" by Hamilton Hall

It explains all the different types of back pain in words that you and I can understand. It then gives you some test that you can do to help you determine which type you might have. Finally it gives you some exercise that you can do.

When I was having back pain this book helped me a great deal.

MichaelD two things in the book that might interest you.

1. The chapter on Chiropractor

2. Most back pain can be fixed without sugery

Oh between this book and seeing a physio two time my back pain is all but gone.

Actually, I don't have one in my home. They have one at the gym and one at the Chiros' office. It's a tilt-table with clamps for your ankles.

I can do it without special equipment. :) I just support myself with my hands on a table or whatnot with my legs dangling, and loosen my lower back muscles.

Heh, the Chiro told me about that trick too. The problem is that I'm 6'1" and when I let my legs dangle, my feet still hit the floor. :(
