Yeah, I have a set top DVD Recorder. It's the Philips DVR985. Had it for almost 4 years now. Absolutely no problems. This one uses +RW media. Benefit of + format is that once a program is recorded, you can take that disk and use it in another set top DVD player. For a - format recorder, you need to make the disk compatible after a program is recorded. A 10 minute procedure. And since you're using rewritable media, you need to erase the contents of a - disk to reuse it. For a + disk, you bring it back to the recorder and just continue to record to the disk and still keep the current contents. A plus with -RW set top recorders is than it will also support DVD-RAM disks. DVD-RAM disks allow you to recorder and watch a prior recording on the disk at the same time. And if you're interested in picking up a set top DVD recorder with a built-in HD PVR, you will find many more -RW models. There are only like 2 or 3 +RW with built-in HD.
