Do you have to be sponsored or can you just sign up and take the exam? Does it change by state? Where can I get info. on taking the exam(s)?

i took it and passed it about 15 yrs ago. then you had to be sponsored.

I haven't had much interest in the field in years so i couldn't tell you what the rule is now.

No, i don't believe that he worked for a brokerage at that time. He's been self-employed for quite a while now. I will ask him tomorrow if you don't get an answer by then. :)

that is what I was afraid of. I was informed that you go to a Sylvan Learning Center and take a 250 question multiple choice computerized exam. I am self motivated and have learned alot on my own... I spent a lot of money on books/study guides. I guess I will just have to feel self fulfilled. I am not interested (nor qualified) to work in the field.

Hi,

In order to take the Series 7 or 6 exam, you do need to be sponsored by a broker-dealer (unlike the 6x state series ). However, most states have provisions where you can be sponsored by the securities division of the state and thus take it and be a registered rep with the NASD without formal affiliation.

please look here

http://www.securities.state.oh.us/

and here
http://www.nasdr.com/5200.asp

if you are motivated, approach some local broker-dealers and develop a relationship and call the good people in Columbus to check up on the details.

all the people here are right, you need sponsorship for both the 6 and 7.

Cheers ! :)
