Has anyone taken online University of Phoenix classes?

So I am only asking for input from people who have taken online classes through University of Phoenix. I want to find out if others have had good experiences with them or not.

I want to finish my Bachelors in Web Development. Online is the best option for me since I work full time, so please, no replies about not going to an online school just because its online.

My cousin took courses. I know you aren't looking for this response but when he was applying for jobs, a lot of employers were turned off by the fact that it was an online degree...

He ended up biting the bullet and getting a Masters at a state school while working full time.

Well... I don't take online classes at Phoenix... but my university does offer online classes and I actually prefer them to normal lectures. I can do them whenever I want, pause them halfway through to go make a snack, it's great. Sometimes it's hard to get help if they're resources/prof isn't too great. I don't see what the problem would be, go for it.

Thanks MoPHo, but the reason I said no replies like that is because I am already employed with a company that I am planning to stay with for a long time (probably until I retire) and they would like me to finish my MBA. I dont HAVE TO, but I do at least want to finish my degree instead of staying out of school and leaving my degree at an associates. I got my associates through a normal college, but then moved...

My dad did some to get his Masters in Education. I don't know if it was University of Phoenix. He liked them, but I dunno if he ever finished his degree.

Mom has also liked them.

The schools they work at both liked them, and I know they at least counted for their recertification stuff. I think my dad got a pay raise too

MBA in Web Development? Don't you mean Masters in Web Development or MBA with a concentration in eCommerce?

And either way, no, do not finish your degree at the Univ. of Phoenix.

Not trying to be a dick, but is it possible for you to pitch the option of them paying for some night school over X years so you'll have a better degree and essentially be worth more to the company?

If they don't mind you doing an online MBA, than I guess it shouldn't really be an issue. But if I can play devil's advocate, if you didn't stay with the company until you retired, you think an online MBA would be sufficient?

Planning to stay with a company until retirement is out the window decades ago.

UoP doesn't get a lot of respect and I've heard a lot of horror stories about the quality of their courses. They've also been in a number of legal disputes, bare that in mind.

As far as online courses go, it depends on the school and the instructor. I've taken some that were horrible and I felt I learned very little because the course implementation was terrible. You can just as easily get the same effect at a traditional course though, a poor instructor or subpar curriculum can ruin that class just as easily as it will an online course.

The online courses I'm taking right now seem to be pretty good. The instructors are pretty knowledgeable and they organize their course work very well. I dislike how they wish us to structure our research papers, however. They say they want APA style, and I follow the APA information in both their guide and in the APA book that I have, and I still get marked down for not following the APA standard. And I've found some cases where my current edition APA book differs from their online guide. This isn't unique to my current school either, I saw the same effect in the two community colleges I was at, who used MLA.

Thanks for the good input Bateluer. I am worried about getting myself into a horrible online college situation like that... I didnt know about the legal disputes either.

Your best bet are night classes at a local university, or earlier morning and working 2nd shift if your employer is flexible.

If people like me can get a law degree at night (mind you, 3 hrs a night, every night), you should have no problem finishing your bachelors. I'm assuming finishing means you've already started, how many credits left?

swjaste: See that's the thing.... the University I would go to only offers one class at one time during the day for only one semester a year; and several of them like to be right in the middle of the day when I would be either ending or starting a shift. Kind of a huge pain in the ass...
