In usual usage the 40GNX has is significantly faster than both my Toshiba and my Fujitsu 60 GB drives. However, for sequential transfers (ie. empty partition for captures), both are slightly faster than the IBM 40GNX, despite the fact that both my drives are only 4200 rpm.
Anyways, like I said, nothing is stopping you from using an external 7200 rpm desktop Firewire drive for video editing.
