Has anyone switched from FIOS TV to YouTube TV?

I am getting fed up with FIOS just constantly increasing my prices. My bill has gone up from $211 to $225 for no reason. I have 2 set top boxes with DVR and gigabit internet.

Now the things I do like about having FIOS TV is the simplicity of it. I like being able to turn my TV on and it's just "on" quickly and I can go into the DVR and get to things quickly. I like just pushing power on my TV and having background noise.

Now, I don't know if I like it nearly $50/month more though.

I just priced it out, and gigabit internet through them is $90/mo and YouTube TV is $83/mo ($70/mo for first 6 months).

So it would be $172 (initially $160) a month instead of $225.

My 2 TV's upstairs are smart TVs so the apps are easy to get on there. Right now downstairs I have a projector with a set top box to watch TV. I would have to either turn on PS5 or something to get to TV service if I went with YouTube TV, or I don't know if they make standalone boxes like Roku that are "always on" so it would be similar to FIOS set top boxes. One thing I do when I work down here in the morning is I turn my AVR on without the projector, and just listen to a sports talk radio show that is broadcast on TV. So I'm not sure if I could do that with YTTV or not.

I am just curious if anyone made the jump, and if so, anything they like/dislike about the changes and what took getting used to.

I did that switch some years back and love it. Though I'm questioning it now due to other reasons not service related. But you can use it on three tv's. Right now I use it at home and my mom and sister use the other two logins out in the burbs. The app is of course solid on a phone or tablet.

The tv ui is solid, easy to record things, is pretty good at suggesting content. Not sure about playing things without the tv on. Have to research that.

As far as having the fastest seamless startup and UI experience, I strongly recommend getting the google streamer. I use it on my tv with a built-in Roku interface, but I just use the G Streamer remote, it turns the tv on and I have the tv automatically go to the G Streamer input. It has a faster chip and more RAM than the average smart tv by far, and I think most other streaming devices/boxes too.

It's a speedy TV interface, you can easily resume something from another app where you were playing something earlier, it's kept in a stand-by mode, and just go to home screen, and it will say continue watching, and that's it. And it goes back to the other app quite fast.

When I got FTTH I got the whole package, land line, TV, and of course internet. Over time I realized I was not really using the landline much, and even TV, while I did watch it I felt it was something I could live without. Dropped to just internet and it brought down my bill by a long shot. Was paying well over $100/mo and down to around $60 now for just internet. I pretty much get all my TV content through my Jellyfin server anyway. Any time I run across a series I might want to watch I add it on there.

I had FIOS. I forget if they have a data cap. Watch that if you go 100% internet for TV.

Same here. Costs have gone up twice, but I remain basically satisfied. Hulu offers an almost identical package. I say ditch FIOS and try it. There are no huge red flags, and if you want to go back to FIOS, you'll be able to do so at a lower cost than you're paying now.

Dunno if that is the case (going back cheaper) because I'm not closing my account I'm still going to be using them for gigabit internet.

They tried to get me to switch to their new mix and match play, and doing so my internet would go UP from $90/mo to $100/mo and I'm like now why the hell would I do that?

Are there other fiber options available to you? We are pretty happy with the gigabit AT&T fiber we have, and I think they are expanding constantly.

I've had YTTV for a while now. I've also had Hulu and SlingTV. I like YTTV the best for it's UI and they have some 4K stuff as well although you have to pay extra for it. As others have mentioned they went up on price late last year. They are about to lose Paramount as well since they can't reach an agreement. That's 24 channels I believe. Also, if you watch regional sports they might not have it so be sure to check out the lineup first. I haven't been able to watch the Braves for the last 2 years unless it was a nationally televised game. This year FanDuel network can be had without a cable/satellite package so I should be able to watch them this year, albeit for another $20/month.

I did see yesterday while my wife and I watched something on MTV that some ticker about YouTube TV losing Paramount may happen and it was 22 channels I think it said may be lost. I may wait to see if that does or doesn't happen. I don't watch MTV much but there is one show we watch weekly that is on there, but some of the other channels I do watch too so we'll have to see.

You could always try and cancel and switch the account holder maneuver (if your spouse has a different last name).

We used to do this pretty regularly. Oh you can't give me a better deal? Fine I'll cancel

Then the wife signs up same day and we self activate. Total internet outage 10min maybe

Pretty good reception here in NYC.

I do have internet via Spectrum.. but I can get free tv with Pluto and I have youtube and that satisfies my family.

My dad was earlier paying over $100 a month for basic cable and he just used it for news and weather, but I taught him to use a smart phone widget and how to use youtube to get to a local tv channel weather videos.

It's not much saved but it does help pay for the current price of eggs!
