Has anyone successfully taken their own passport photo?

I know you can take your own picture, but it has to line up with their template. Did you find free software on the net to use for it?

TIA :)

I took my picture for a student visa, but I talked to a bunch of people that I went to France with this past year and they all got accepted without problems taking their own passport photos. Some are pretty non-tech-savvy, so I figure if an idiot can do it, we should be fine. :)

I did the same.

Why would you even bother taking it yourself? It seems more work than its worth.

All the time. I think I've always taken my own passport photo.

When I was traveling I had a stack of 30 or so, for visa applications. No way was I going spend $10 for a pair. Not once was my home-shot passport photos rejected.

I took my own. I admit it was more work than I thought to get everything within spec but they accepted it.

Took my wifes and mine. Was pretty easy. I used some software online that was free to make the pictures the correct size. If I can find it I'll post it.

You should be able to do it, I was getting ready to do my own around this time last year when I discovered that AAA Gold members(me!) get a free one.

Free online software for your Do it yourself passport photos.

Edit: Guess the free version puts a watermark on it! sorry

$7.99 for my local CVS. I think I rather let them do it and not mess with it myself. I don't have a high quality color printer at home plus the high quality shinny paper.

I will have to do one because my passport is expired.

We had ours taken at the passport place. The charge for the photo was nothing compared to the charge for the actual passport.

Yep, I just used photoshop after reading their guidelines. I used PS to make a blank 4x6 image and put the passport-sized image in there 6/8 times, saved it to my CF card, and printed it out like a normal picture at the photo booth. The photo lab tech was chagrined.

(I used to be a photo lab tech)

It's not that big of a deal really. If you have any photo-resizing software, which you probably do, that will take care of getting it the correct size. Then just print it out on the glossy paper.
