Has anyone setup surveillance cameras around their home?

My car was vandalized this past weekend. The person who did it may be coming back. I'm honestly not sure who they are. I'm interested in setting up cameras to monitor the front of my home, my driveway, and the parking spots I use. 2 should do it. I was thinking of hooking them up to my WiFi network. They have to be for outdoor use. Anyone have anything similar?

what you are looking for is a wireless IP camera, all you do is plug in the power and set the network settings. they would have to be in some sort of weather-proof encloser as they are usually made for indoor use, afaik. i would highly recommend a wired system since the signal can not be intercepted and you get the best overall video signal. i work for a cctv company and dont like to promote it in any way since i dont get any commission from the sales. pm me if you want so more info.

What about those fake ones? They look real,... and if I was a punk ass kid I would think twice about doing anything, even if I thought it might be fake. I wouldn't take the risk.

Personally I would go with a patio chair and a rifle, but whatever works for you.

LOL....

Seriously though, we use X10 cams at work and two wireless IP cams (D-Link ones). The X10's are great because they are simple for certain applications. The wireless IP cams are a bit expensive, but they are fantastic for checking them from anywhere.

EDIT: As for signal interception on the X10's we could careless who wants to see the parking lot, front counter, etc.

Any ideas on how to weatherproof them?

Our outside cams hang under the eaves of the structure so are basically weather proofed. However, my boss found small plexiglass boxes somewhere that we modified slightly for added protection from wind driven rain and snow.
