Has anyone seen any reviews or comparisons between the original WD740 & the new WD740ADFD?

Has anyone seen any reviews or comparisons between the original WD740-xx (8mb buffer) and the new WD740ADFD with the 16mb buffer and TLER & RAFF? I don't see one at StorageReview. I'm very curious to know how much faster it is if any over the previous WD740, and against the WD1500 even more so.
Thanks.

The ADFD, the new ones are much better than the old 74GB, I have both.

If there is any kind of conflict with the motherboard chipset or errors ... the old raptors really struggle, where as the new with the error correcting.. keeps going.

Speed wise.. the new ones get over 80MB/s for reads and writes for the first 18 GB of hard drive.. and over 65 up until the final drop over the last 10-12 GB.. where speeds do drop quickly from the mid 60's to the low 50's.

They also run a degree or two cooler.. have not measured.. but by touch.. and they are fairly quiet with some noise on seeks, but.. more like hearing a ferrari rev up than an old Diesel..

The new ones rock.

The best way I can say it until our review is up is that the new WD740ADFD is nothing more than a single platter WD1500. The performance of the drive basically matches the WD1500, just one less platter (in a couple of tests outperforms the WD1500). Great boot drive... 😉

Guys I happened to find a review comparing the old WD740, the new WD740, and the WD1500 and the new WD740 is faster than the WD1500 in all but one Desktop app and some RAID apps. Pretty amazing, I would have thought the WD1500 would have been faster in everything.

(What is "Windows Boat"? Not too impressive for the Raptors whatever that is).

Note that the site is in another language and that's the Babelfish translation pages.

Yes they do, actually it's 88mb/sec at most review sites for the WD1500. That link I just posted got less than that at almost 86mb for the WD1500 and 84mb for the 740ADFD. I guess they used a different program that most other sites. WD states at their site 88 & 84mb for the WD1500 & 740ADFD. Strange that the 740ADFD fairs better in almost every test.
