I've been close enough to smell them, although that ain't saying much, as you can smell them from 50 yards.

Sure, the small town where I work has a Amish community. It's common to pass them on the side of the road in a horse and buggy, always dressed in black. They are really nice people, too.

Not all of them are nice. I know from experience.

We have quite a large Mennonite community here in Sarasota.... They walk around town with their old style clothes, women with their white country milkmaids hats on, men with the long beards and suspenders... They also drive little 3 wheeled bikes with large carts all around town...

Yeah, there's quite a few amish communities around here.

I've always wanted to sneak into one and give a kid a gameboy :D

Amish women know how to cook ,thats for damn sure.
There is an amish town named Shipshewana not far from me. They have a bunch of shops set up where you can buy thier goods.
Its like being in another time period or another country yet its so close.
I would go crazy living like that but I guess if you were born into it then thats all you know.

anyone want one of these?? I'm feeling downright ornery and I'd be willing to go rip down one of these signs for the right price :)

I live in an area with plenty of amish folk (god I'd like to doink one of the chicks in the long dresses)

You would probably need a weedwhacker first :)
Some of the girls are really cute and always give a big smile if you smile at them.

of course.

I went to college in central pennsylvania.

half a mile out of down in any directions and it was all farmland (amish + non-amish farms). it was a pretty common occurance to see them in Walmart. there was even a special section of the parking lot in back of the store for them to "park" their horses and buggies.

I've got an Amish supermarket/restaurant type thing next to my place. They came down from Lancaster County Pennsylvania. They make fresh barbeque, fried chicken, pies, hot dogs, bread and cookies. Pretty nice place, they even have fresh fruit out.

Although a lot of them have genetic disorders stemming from the fact that they are all descendants of 150-300 German or Swiss settlers.
