Has anyone RMA'd a video card bought off a forum?

I bought an X800 PCI-E off the forsale/trade forum here on AT from an established trader. It was not cheap. The card was pulled from his pre-built Dell system.

Everything was fine, then after 2 days I had major issues with the card. It needs an RMA.

I tried to go through the RMA form on Ati's site, but it didn't recognize the #'s off the card and said that if the card was in a pre-built system to go through that company. This would mean Dell. I'm on Dell's site and it looks like I need the # off the back of the computer to get any type of help.

So what do I do here? I really don't know.

Has anyone had something similar happen?

I did contact the seller and he will help if needed. I would rather RMA it myself if possible so there is no middle man.

So get the # of the back of that dude's system.

I don't see anything else you can do... unless you want to get into not-so-legal kinds of things.

You have to contact the seller for help. Warranties are always void when you sell something to someone else. You need his service tag number at the very least.

I would try to return it to the dude. His name and address is tied to the dell service tag.

So would Dell let us return just the video card or would the whole computer have to be mailed in?
