Has anyone ran their Arctic Cooling VGA fan straight from the PS

While changing graphics cards I tried hooking my NV5 straight to the PS and noticed it was way more powerful than when juiced by the card. Obviously it's getting more power. But I wonder if it would cause problems with reliability and shorter life. I'd like to know if anyone has received an increase in performance by doing this. It definately would lower temps a degree or 2.

When you hook it up to the PSU, the fan is no longer controlled by the video card, some video cards have dynamic speed and ajust the speed with the temp, Epertool shows you this, running it off the psu means your running it at 100% 24/7, I dont think you'll have problems as long as you dont mind the noise.

When you hook it to the power supply, you are getting a constant 12 Volts. The fan controller on your video card probably varies the fan speed in a range of 5-11 volts depending on the GPU temperature.

Hooking it up to the power supply is perfectly fine.

I don't understand why more people don't do this. The NV5 makes NO more noise with 12v power than with it running slower on the cards power. And you allways hear people complain about lack of power on tha AC fans.

You can just connect it to the card and use experttool to ajust the fan speed.

I connected mine to the card, and it ripped off the plastc surrounding the pins on the card when I tried to take it off.
Not the pins are exposed. The thing didn't fit properly either, so it wouldn't even go on the damned card.
Luckily I had accidentally ordered 2, and the second one fitted (the first one must have been badly made :().
It's less risky hooking it straight up to the PSU :p

Not true at all...there is a notable difference between a Silencer at 5V and at 11/12V. It's the difference between "quiet" and "silent" - if you have a silent PC you will notice the difference.
