Has anyone purposely made themselves pass out?

"Crouch down, breathe deep and fast through your mouth for about half a minute, and when you're done, stand up straight and hold your breath.

Say hello to the floor unless you have a partner to catch you."

That advice was given to someone in another forum who was looking for instructions. He wanted to try it out himself because "his cousin did it and said it was pretty fun."

Passing out doesn't exactly sound like my idea of "fun."

I'm wondering how much brain damage the above would do, if any?

Omg, me and my friends did taht for like 2 hours, its such a waste of time. I think its cute when girls pass out when they get nervous or freaked too.

Sounds like something we'd did in middle school. I moved on to college and learned I can make myself pass out using alcohol. :)

Agreed. Alchohol is so much faster and better for that than just holding your breath.

Better and faster? Is this a joke or are you really that clueless?

I've never passed out in my life. o_O And I've never seen anyone (male/female/other) pass out when they got nervous/freaked out... how odd. I wonder what happens physically/chemically to make that happen?

As for brain damage, nah..
I agree. You will pass out before any legitimate brain damage occurs. Its a convenient opportunity for your body to take control of your breathing pattern.

No and I really don't think it's very good for you. Whether it would actually cause any brain damage or not depriving yourself of oxygen willfully is just not smart.

Interesting.

How long do you remain "passed out?" What factors would determine that? Do you simply fall asleep and wake back up?

Still finding all of this a bit bizarre... *googles for more info*

You remain passed out long enough for your body to start breathing again to get oxygen to the brain... so basically just a few seconds (unless something went terribly wrong).

We used to do this thing when I was in the service called a "Up against the WALL"
You hyperventilate then let ALL the air out, then someone gives you a "shotgun", you hold in the hit while leaning against the wall and they press on your chest.

BOOM BOOM, out go the lights.

Last time I did it to someone, he passed out hitting his head on the coffee table on his way down, started shaking and flopping around, and STOPPED BREATHING.

<--- FREAKED THE FVCK OUT and started beating on his chest trying to get him the BREATH!!!

Never did it again. Never will.
