Has anyone purchased from compuplus.com? Prices much lower than others. Too good to be true?

I am in the process of purchasing the last few components for my first "home-built" PC and I see that compuplus.com has most of the items.

The thing that bothers me is that all of the items I have looked at on compuplus.com are significantly lower than other places. They are selling a Maxtor 61gb hard-drive for the price most places sell a 30gb Maxtor.

They also claim a 30 day money back guarantee.

Has anyone tried this place out?

May I inquire to your experiences with them?

Resellerratings.com rates them pretty low. Should that be enough to shy me away from them?

Ditto! Check those web pages and ask on the forums if you are not sure.

A good retailer will have a good price that is believable, and shipping that is on par with what the delivery service (UPS, FedEx, USPS, etc.) charges them. Some make money from shipping. Some even have high prices and high shipping prices. HINT! If they are not up-front (before you give them CC#) with their shipping cost when you check shopping cart or check out, they are most often making a profit from shipping.

High shipping is NOT their only problem.

As mentioned, check reseller ratings.

My advice is to avoid them.

Yep, their shipping charges are nuts. Unfortunately, alot of companies you find via Pricewatch are the same way. I'd avoid them.

They who would you recommend?

I'm trying to build my first PC and I can't seem to find a good dealer for the last few components.

Thanks again.

buy.com and onvia.com are both good. I have also had good luck with Computers4sure.com and multiwave. (direct.mwave.com) If support is real important, check with compucheap.com. Prices are a little higher but Russ is legendary when it comes to support.

In addition to the vendors mentioned above, IC-Direct is another fine vendor. Not the lowest prices, but decent, plus great support and fair shipping (usually $8 for an order, unless it is huge or very heavy).

I have purchased as many components as possible from buy.com but the majority of the items I'm looking for are on back-order through them.

I have also purchased from onvia.com but their selection is rather poor.

I have ended up ordering directly through the various product manufacturers for some of the rest of the products (I'm, sadly, paying out the yang though).

Thanks for everyones' input.
