I was checking for some games on Steam and just saw that one.
It somehow escaped my attention until now. I literally never heard of it before. It's a first-person survival type game in a sandbox setting and seems to be heavily inspired by the likes of DayZ and STALKER, at least from what I've seen of it so far. It's not a "zombie apocalypse" per say (similar atmosphere though, I guess), however (finally!). It's similar to STALKER in the sense that instead of mainly fighting (or surviving against) zombies you're facing "mutants", sort of... they're called Nethers (well sure there's zombies in STALKER but you get the point, it's more about "mutants" or "strange creatures" than zombies). The details I know about the game are few, they mostly come from the various YouTube videos I just watched moments ago. If you guys search for it then make sure to filter your search by recently uploaded ones, or you'll be watching much older versions of it. And if I'm not mistaken it runs under a modified UE3 engine.
There's two purchasable packages, named the "Believer Package" (basic one) and the "Chosen Package" (with some extras). It's still under development though (seriously what's going on with the non-stop rain of early access "released-and-purchasable" games out there, sheesh) and there still seems to be a bunch of issues to resolve but the devs do release patches on a regular basis (there's been one like a day ago). I'm also following the devs' comments on their Twitter page (they post regularly there) and on their official forums from time to time (well I've been doing that since only a day or so for now).
There's the official web site and their Twitter page. I'm quite interested though (that's why I'm posting this in the first place), it looks very fun and one of the first videos I saw of it on YouTube immediately reminded me of STALKER. I've never played DayZ so I can't compare to it, but supposedly there's a definitive DayZ flavor mixed in. There's of course "guest keys" out there, but they're given to buyers of either packages only, from what I know... that or I think they also give some away from Twitter or something along the lines every now and then. I'm not sure if the devs ever intend to "officially launch" the game with some fanfare when it hits "final version" but you can simply buy it right now on Steam (but remember... it's far from being completed, apparently).
Has anyone tried it? The guest keys supposedly let you play but only for a period of 72 hours, and then your access to the game is probably blocked. Although 72 hours of play is more than plenty to make your mind about it. The problem, however, is that I'm not sure if it's a good thing to "make up your mind" about an unfinished game in the first place. A 72 hours access to a "final product", sure... but 72 hours to an "early access" versions of a game... not so sure. Well if you help with the testing I guess it's a good reason to go for it. But nevertheless, it's looks like a fun game already. I might consider buying it, eventually, but I'd need some incentive myself.
I'm just very cautious about games we can already buy while they're still under clear-as-day development and are openly labeled "early access". You never know where it can go and could end up preferring an earlier build and disliking a "final build" later on (but yeah, it's part of the "risk" I guess). Anyway, if anyone played it please let me [us] know your impressions, thanks.
