Has anyone ordered textbooks from overseas?

I can get my textbook info and ISBN numbers from my bookstore's online page. Then I just hit up addall.com and enjoy the savings. 😀

But this one book, (ISBN: 0131877119) says 2007 8th ed at my bookstore, but comes up everywhere as 2006 8th ed. Damn brand new books barely have any savings online! Anyway since the seller descriptions still say brand new, 8th ed [2006], and the ISBN matches except that they are international, soft-cover editions, I think I am safe to order still (I've ordered almost all of my textbooks online, usually soft-cover, intl ed).

But these sellers from Abe's books are almost all overseas. The book would cost me $130 new/$100 used at the bookstore, and considering some of the soft-cover, intl ed from India and other places are $40 + shipping, I'd still get a good savings.

Even with upgraded shipping, which ranges from $25-$35, I'd still save $25. Upgraded shipping for some sellers states 2-5 days. I can't trust the standard shipping of 10-14+ days since classes start next Monday.

Am I really gonna get it within a week from the other side of the world??

edit: Oddly, this one from Singapore has the cheapest expedited shipping of 2-4 days for $15. I don't know... not sure I trust them to get it in 4 days for $15. Just wondering if anyone else has ordered from overseas.

no, i can't read indian or thai

they are in english.....

anyways....I have done it numerous times....just be aware that it will take 3 weeks for teh book to get here and teh pages will be really thin. When buying an international edtion book, make sure it specifies that it has good quality paper (unless you do not care about that stuff).

The question here is has anyone NOT ordered the international versions? They are exactly the same content for half the cost.

Except they are printed on something resembling tissue paper.

that's why you need to make sure you get teh version that's made with good paper for $10 more.

I bought my organic book from India a couple years ago. Book was exactly same as the US counterpart. Only difference is there was no color in the book. Just straight black text. Worked fine for me.

I have seen textbooks (engineering) that retail in the $60-$80 range on Amazon.com that I bought (new) for Rs. 400-ish. That's a little less than $10 😛

So it's likely going to take weeks to get? I got quite a few intl versions, and yes the paper usually isn't very good, but not a huge concern for me. Mostly I'm worried about shipping. Even if I get the expedited shipping (2-7 days, depending seller), I should expect to wait a couple of weeks? Crap... too late for that I think!

It depends. I have had book stake a month to get here, but with expidited, it took around 1.5 weeks. Like i said, the shipping probably will not be that under $10 shipping you see.

Or just don't care. I graduated over a year ago and I've opened exactly zero of my textbooks since then.

I usually buy int'l editions off half.com. You can still get the book cheap without having to wait 3 weeks.
