Has anyone lost a CPU lately from a system which goes to sleep?

Last night i lost a CPU.

Funny thing was it was not overclocked, so it died of something other then excessive voltage and heat.

This is one of the extremely rare occasions i have lost a cpu not from something other then stress.
The only thing different this time however is the system did goto sleep when not in use.

The platform is my office PC, a X299 + 7900X.

When doing some research, i found out that MSI boards had this problem:

Could it be possible its an issue on all intel boards?

When inspecting the cpu, i noticed no scorched pads, so its possible its just a random dud in my case.
The pins look immaculate, and the debug cpu i am testing with right now a 7740X works fine.
The Ram is also working fine, all being detected.

The system specs were as follows:

1. Not overclocked.
2. Had a Noctua NH-C14 heatsink.
3. Had Corsair DDR4 C16 3200mhz ram, 32gb = 8gb x 4sticks.
4. Ram was run at XMP settings.
5. Seasonic Platinum PSU 1kw.
6. Gigabyte Auros Gaming 7 motherboard.

I am quite stumped, as i am pretty sure the cpu is dead.
I have thrown it on my test bed a Taichi x299, where the loaner 7740x came from, and it does not boot up.

So i am wondering if any of u guys have lost a cpu from a system which underwent sleep?

I am thinking possibly resume from sleep maybe the culprit of killing these cpu's on XMP profile for ram.

Well, I had a stick of memory and a ram slot go bad on my 6700k system. Not overclocked or even turned on ! I was going to sell the motherboard, then I put it back together, and it would not post. Turned out that if a stick of memory was in the bad slot, it would not post. And after checking the memory on another motherboard, I found one dead stick. So it may not just me x299 chipset.

My best guess is that either the PSU put out a voltage spike that killed the CPU, or the motherboard allowed that to happen. I am guessing something the same for my motherboard/memory.

What is the theory regarding the CPU death on waking up?

I read a post somewhere that said the mem controller is what is being killed on waking up?

High XMP memory voltage on wake?

Sigh... i have no clue...
I think it maybe the high XMP voltage on wake.

Anyhow i contacted Intel.
They want me to ship the cpu back, and will mail me a replacement once its validated.

I lost a few month old 4790K out of the blue. One day the computer just did not turn on. Wasn't overclocked. PS seemed okay. I was getting ready to try a new mobo that I had for another project, thinking that a bad CPU already was very unlikely, when I remembered that I had a G3258 laying around. Dropped that in and it fired right up.

The exchange process with intel was reasonably easy and did not take long. I got a NIB 4790K back that is still going strong today.
