With wireless systems, it is really easy to install. Also monitoring is much cheaper than if you went with ADT or their competitors.

There's a recent thread (probably a week old now) that talks about setups for small businesses. Would apply here as well. Not sure what it was called though, somewhere in ATOT.

I'm not sure... How easy is it to "install" a Remington 870 pump action shotgun? :D

So call ADT. The commercials talk about systems starting at $200 installed. At that price it's worth it to let someone do it right instead of trying to DIY.

You can do like the people that got flooded and dig a moat. That's been used for thousands of years, tried and true.

You should expect that the savings on your home insurance bill will only partially offset the security monitoring fees.

This topic comes up from time to time and the usual replies are heard, few of which are helpful. They typically sound like this...

Get a dog.
Get a gun.
Everybody loves everyone and nobody needs protection of this sort.
Criminals need money and you are depriving them of their livelihood.
It will only cost you money with no return.

I have installed a replacement panel for an existing hardwired system. It's not difficult, but the instructions are written for experienced installers. Having said that, if you buy from a reputable dealer, they will not only help you pick components, they will help you with the set-up afterwards which is the most difficult part. If you have the system monitored, the monitoring company will do the programming for you.

Here are some links.

Contrary to common opinion, it's entirely possible to get the system monitored for a cost that will result in a net savings on your insurance when it's all said and done. PM me if you wish and I can tell you who I have monitoring ours.

A serious answer to your serious question.

Umm short term maybe......

When you do that, you sign up for ~3 years worth of monitoring at around $30/month.

Or you can buy the system for $300 and install it. Then you can easily find monitoring for ~$10/month. And that $300 system will be better than what ADT installs.

What does it take to install a wireless system? Can you drill a hole through a door jam. How about using drywall anchors? If you said yes to those two questions then you can install a wireless security system. OH I forgot, you need to be able to read a manual too.
