Is this a worthwhile art to learn?

I'm basically looking to learn some fighting techniques to defend myself in case I'm ever in a bad situation.

Bruce Lee's fighting form. Boxing, kickboxing all merged together in a kick ass artform. But nonetheless.

I belive it also includes some grappling? (whatever that fancy word for wrestling is)

Its suppose to basically be a streetfighting 'art' without all the horsesh|t.

Oh... yeah.. i think it has that too. Bruce Lee wanted to merge the best of everything and get to the most effective form possible.

Anything is better than nothing. Most schools, even the worst ones, will at least teach you how to properly thrown a punch, kick, and block. JKD requires proper certification, so there's a good chance it's a decent school. It doesn't have to be a lifetime commitment, so sign up on a monthly basis or a short term contract, and see how you like it.

It all depends why you are going to school. If you want to defend yourself on the street, I'd find the nearest Gracie Jui Jitsu school and learn some streetfighting techniques. If you want to learn katas and look cool, go for JKD. My JDK instructor in NYC is also a BJJ instructior (brown belt from Renzo) and he's the one who sent me from his school to Gracie.
