Has anyone here had a sympathectomy?

I was thinking getting a sympathectomy and was wondering if anyone here has had it done or knows something about it. If you have had it done I'm wondering how well it worked, if there were any side effects, how much did it cost, etc. For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking there's some information here.

I used to think that I had the same problem as you have (excessive sweating right?), but then I realized that I was just fat ;)

I swear I thought this was a satyrical post about "having ones sympathy removed." :Q

I had no idea it was a REAL operation. I learned something new today.

I'm with you though; my pits sweat like crazy for no reason at all. My chest too. Yes, my chest sweats. No problem with sweaty hands or feet, though.

I'm the other way around. My pits aren't bad but my hands and feet are just nasty.

BTW, thanks for the pm, DocZaius ;)

That was my first thought too. I figured he'd be ranting about the heartless repost nazis or something.

Bump. I expect to see 20 replies from people who know what they're talking about when I get back! :p And just curious is ETS the abbreviation for this surgery? Then what's ESB and all the other abbreviations they use here?

Ok, that didn't work out so well .. how about one person who knows what he/she is stalking about then?

Sweating is the body's means of cooling itself. Perhaps your excessive sweating means you are one hot dude that the chicks dig?

Oh, and the ads at the bottom are spot on.

Nah, I don't think that's it. Hah, just noticed the ads.

my uncle-in-law had it done and he's much happier now because he used to sweat so much that he couldn't really be in public that much. He's really glad he got it done.

my older son had a foot problem as a teenager, but he outgrew it.

surgery is a pretty radical step - something i personally would avoid except as a last resort.

You probably don't know but .. what did it cost and were there any side effects?

I think the first option now is botoxing the area.
What is botox? A prescription drug?

Botox is a form of botulisim. They use it to paralyze cells. Today, it's often used in plastic surgery to get rid of wrinkles, but it's also used to paralyze sweat glands. The downside is you have to get it redone every 6 months (I believe). The upside is that it isn't surgery, and completly non-invasive.

I sweat pretty easily, but I don't know if I actually have a "problem". Although it would be nice to not sweat so much when it's even moderately warm outside.

My hands and feet are constantly sweating. Sometimes I'm just sitting at the computer and see beads of sweat forming on my feet and a pool of sweat below them .. err, too much information.

ETS is Endoscopic Transthoracic Sympathectomy (cut the nerve), while ESB is Endoscopic Sympathetic Block (clamp the nerve). There are some treatments like Drionic you should try before resorting to surgery.

Deslocke, I have the same problem. Palms always sweaty, pits sometimes REALLY sweaty (I have to use Drysol, which is prescription deodorant). I've just learned to deal with it, I had no clue there was surgery for it...I may look into it.
