I think I've tried everything, the best I can do is 3D on one monitor, or clone mode in a broken gtk session but nothing like the big desktop (with no 3D) I had on feisty. Newer cards are slightly better supported, and my lesser nvidia powered laptop rips by comparison to my desktop and its great-in-windows ATI card. I've seen all of the tutorials/howtos, I'm only interested in hearing from people who have gotten it to work with either fglrx+3D, or ANY dual monitor setup with specifically this card (r350 9800Pro).

Did you check the Phoronix website for the latest ATI heartbreaks?

FGLRX 8.42.3 Release
http://www2.ati.com/drivers/li...-8.42.3-x86.x86_64.run

or Installing RadeonHD on Ubuntu instructions:

(I say heartbreak because I have the RS690 IGP on a new motherboard and it doesn't work at all on Ubuntu, debian, or Fedora 7. :( All that excitment of jumping off the MS bandwagon to something better, and I end up installing XP64 just to see if my motherboard was completely working...)

Damn, sorry to hear about that. Yes I tried the latest driver, and several others. It seems if I try to mess with anything in gutsy besides the screen resolution, it hoses my video settings and tries to run at cellphone resolution. The stock driver off the install CD works ok for single monitor, most of the eyecandy even works, and some 3d, but not much. I'm going to search for some linux videocard reviews with benchmarks. Maybe there are some here on anandtech?
