Has anyone here gone through hypnosis?

Some people use it to quit smoking, some do it to lose weight. Some comedians even do it to make people cluck like chickens when they hear a trigger. Anybody here try it?

And the bigger question... how safe is it on the mind? In the trance-like state, the mind is supposed to be in full control, but also be very susceptible to suggestion. So what if the hypnotist tried suggesting something the mind didn't want to do (or not do?)? Does the subconsious then start a battle with the concious? Could this be dangerous?

Yes, I went through hypnosis. I proceeded to dump my girlfriend, stopped going to work, got promoted to upper management, and stole a huge amount of money from the company. 😛

I did to quit smoking. It worked great. You are in control at all times unless your clucking like a chicken. And I got to wear these cool glasses with blinky lights on them.😀

"Yeah, I know. The guy's really good!"

"So I was sitting in my cubicle today, and I realized, ever since I started working, every single day of my life has been worse than the day before it. So that means that every single day that you see me, that's on the worst day of my life."
"What about today? Is today the worst day of your life?"
"Yeah."
"Wow, that's messed up!"

My wife got picked to be on stage during a show with a hypnotist several years ago, I'd give my left arm to be able to go back with a video camera and tape it. She was very susceptable (sp?), the guy had her doing all kinds of funny stuff. Afterword she said she kind of knew what she was doing, but she had no inhibitions, and didn't really notice the audience laughing or clapping. She said that while she was doing whatever he said, she was very happy, and glad to do whatever he told her.

A friend of mine did it to quit smoking. It worked for a couple of days and then he was dipping snuff. 3 weeks later he was smoking and dipping

So did you "take advantage" of this opportunity? 😀

I went on stage about a month or two ago at a hypnotist's show. Didn't work. I was hoping it would. Looks like fun.

Well, she was my wife, so I didn't need hypnosis. I've heard that you can not make someone do something that they would not normally do (like rob a bank, or give you great sex). There was one point in the show where the hypnotist had her thinking she was under the ocean swimming, and she can't swim. I guess he could make her pretend, but if he threw her in some real water she would have freaked out.

Well that's good to know. 🙂
