has anyone here ever been to a computer show?

I used to go to computer shows all the time in the mid to late 90s. Back then the deals were good.
The last computer show I was at was about 2 or 3 years ago, they had pretty much just refurb stuff, and prices were worse then online.

I've been to Marketpro shows twice. I usually go to Tri-state fair shows all the time, but havent gone in the last few months. I think they have more vendors than Marketpro and they also seem to have some really good deals.

ive been to a big one and it was pretty subpar.. most of the equipment was old useless crap and you could find deals better in HD forum 😛

i used to goto tri-state fairs as well. its always crowded, and i think you can get better deals online sometimes.

I'm going to the one in Chantilly this weekend. They are kind of past their prime now since you can get the same deals on the net but I know a couple dealers that I have bought from for years that sell there and that is generally where I buy motherboards and CPU's from since I can then take them home and use them that day and don't have to deal with shipping and RMAs if I have a problem.

before the internet, they were good

with online places likew newegg and compgeeks , who needs a show?

That is about the same for me. The only way to get good deals pre-internet.

I went to one a year ago. Most people had old technology, there was very little new stuff anywhere. The only items that were decent in price where the "unknown" condition items, where you buy a cd drive for $2, but have no gurantee it'll work, so chances are it wont.

true. I used to buy parts at shows back then.

I got jacked by some russians selling cheap ram. I had to get a lawyer to write a nasty letter for a refund....

Moral of the story, check your ram before you leave the show 🙂.

woah, sa,me thing happened to me, instead it was a motherboard and cpu

They've always had a lot of them in Southern California. The NP Expo shows were good; mostly vendors selling new items, and you'd save enough to be worth the price of admission. http://lacomputerfair.com/ The deals online have gotten better so I haven't gone as much lately. The Northrup Grumman and ACP swap meets have more older surplus equipment with a few vendors for new stuff at ACP. Has anyone been to the Pomona show lately? It was always the most expensive with admission and parking, but it also had the best deals and the most vendors.

i went to marketpro years ago
I am still using the case I bought there
good price on the generic case and no shipping
