I've recabled headphones before. It's not exactly rocket science. It's mostly a trade off between low wire resistance (which helps with frequency response amongst other things) and not having cables thick enough to tow an Escalade.
That said, I am not a fan of the KSC75s. They're not bad, but they're not that amazing either. They're also a bit flimsy - the earclips broke off mine in no time. There's no real noise isolation, either.
I've got some im716s and some Sony MDR-V6s (7506s) which are better, and some Beyerdynamics which simply smoke every other headphones I've ever owned. You really do get what you pay for.
