Has anyone here been diagnosed with bipolar disorder?

My sister is manic-depressive and I hear it runs in the family. I know that I go through manic periods a couple times a year but I don't feel crushing depression other times. I really don't feel much of anything. Even though I respond to emotional movies and such (not a psychopath), I'm probably the least emotional person I know. Could that also be a symptom of MD or bipolar disorder?

According to the technical definition of bipolar disorder, you don't necessarily have to have depression, although they say everyone has it eventually. And there's also bipolar disorder II, which is basically a milder form (hypomanic). Keep in mind that with the classic bipolar, the manic episodes (and depression) should "interfere" with your quality of life... do you feel that way?

I love Tundra...

And for the OP... much as I hate to say it. The most prominent BP poster here is on vacation. Maybe you could PM him? (HAL9000)

That's kinda why I decided to bring it up when I did. This way I can keep him and his "me me me" attitude out.

We are actually PMing eachother.

I intended to do a lot with my three and a half extra hours before work today. Instead, I just laid in bed on ATOT and didn't even brush my teeth until 6:40PM when I was getting ready for work. I didn't clean and lube my chain or pay my credit card or get my hair cut. I did discover that an O-ring failed on my motorcycle chain when it was too late to arrange for alternate transportation to work and being 3.5 hours past my normal shift time already meant I just had to risk it and go (couldn't legally have the other employee there over 12 hrs). I really am kicking myself for not doing what I said I would do.

nice tags

and No, I have not.

Someone deleted it. *shrug* Oh well.

HAL9K and I have been talking seriously via PM regardless. He's got a lot of good info so I'm actually glad he took the "bait."

Ex-wife is bi-polar; it was the reason behind our marriage breaking up. She's good now (we are pretty much best friends) as she is on meds and in therapy for it, but going through that at the time and not knowing what was happening was awful. :(

Yes. I'm a guy and I have bipolar type 2. I'm overcoming it by having a good strict daily schedule and sleeping at least 8-9 hours a day. Watch your diet too because for me high sugars tend to trigger manic episodes. :/ I remember one manic episode I bought a lot of computer parts... and returned them the next day :p

Was never diagnosed but in retrospect (and after learning a lot more about bipolar symptoms or presentation), I'm almost certain I was Bipolar II during adolescence from about the age of 14 and into my early-20s, with some occasions (short lived) where I have trended toward Bipolar I. The depressive swings were always 'lower' than the manic swings were 'higher' relative to the mid-line, in a manner of speaking. But since my mid-20s, I have progressively become mostly depressive. Last 10 years have been fucking horrible for depression.

Please don't try to self medicate by getting drunk all the time. We have evidence here that it does not work.
