I'm going to get rid of my current CD-ROM drive and replace it with a DVD-ROM. The one I would like to get is the Pioneer with slot loading. Is there any reason why I shouldn't? Thanks for the help.

edit: If you know of any trustworthy online vendors, please list them as well. I've ordered from 2cooltek, ocz, millisec, mwave, and ucdweb and have had zero problems.

I was going to say Pioneer Slot load(take your pick on which model),mine has been excellent over the years,no reason that I can think of why not to buy one.

Pioneer DVDs are awesome. I have one and it has been awesome. I have the 6x version, but the newer ones are even better.
 
Toshiba 12X. reads DVD movies, CD-Roms just as fast as the Pioneer 16X, while being noticably quieter. the only think the Pioneer gots on the Toshiba is faster DVD-Rom reading (who owns a DVD-ROM disk anywaz) and a more flashy face-plate.
 
I would get the pioneer, been a great fan of their technology.. anyway, goto storagereview.com they have a scsi dvdrom review..

Anyway, how good are their review ??!? They didn't like the pioneer dvd too much... guess you can't have everything..
 
I own the Afreey 10x and it's access times are almost as fast as the Toshiba and Pioneer. It is in the top 10 list for DVD speed. It's a super quiet drive and I'm pleased with it. Plus it only cost me $59.

You don't need to buy any cables for it. Just pop it in where your old CD-Rom was and your good to go. Plus there's the fact that the Radeon comes with a DVD Decoder you don't need to worry buying any software.
 
Slot loads are a bad idea, go with the traditional tray loading roms... otherwise, you'll never be able to run a business card cd-r or one of them smaller 3 inch cd's. I think the slot loads are much cooler, but I need to be able to read business card cdr's. You won't believe how wide spread they are these days...
 
DCDomain I've heard of those business card ones, but I haven't encountered one in real life and I doubt I will anytime soon.
 
Yeah, the slot loads are so bad ass. Very quick to use (I'm not kidding).

The business card size cd is an issue, but I haven't run into one yet.
 
be carefull with pioneer ... its a great drive .. till it dies ...

(i had 10x slot load)

mine died after a year and a few days ....

so i ordered a toshiba .... it should arrive here any day ..
