Has anyone heard about the new law that is supposedly taking place in November about keeping your cell phone number for

life? basically if you get a cell number, itll be your number. you can take it to any carrier and theyll activate your phone with that number.

when i went to my nextel training they told me about this. i also talked to another customer on sunday and he told me the same thing. i did not know it was going into effect so soon.

anyone else hear about this?

I haven't heard that. I'm not sure what I think of a phone number that is my number for life. What happens if somebody doesn't get the picture that you don't want to talk to them anymore and you want to change your number? Can you?

According to this article in Wired, the FCC just decided last week to extend the deadline to Nov. 24, 2003.

This is the way things work in Europe. I had just read an article about this, and I can't remember where. It said that the November passage was unlikely and that the most probably outcome is that the decision will once again be delayed, probably for another year.
