Well my dad has a 1996 Tahoe and his brakes always squeek whenever u touch the brake pedal. He has taken it to 3 diffrent places and had the brake pads changed and had the brakes looked at and no one knows what it is. Has anyone else had this problem or know what could fix it? It is REALLY annoying...

Some disc brakes squeal, thats all there is to it.

Sometimes it is caused by the rotors being glazed, you can temporarily fix the glazing problem by backing up at a good rate of speed and applying the brakes firmly. This will break the glazing on the rotors, but usually the problem will return within a week or so. If you are going to get new pads, you need to get the rotors turned at the same time, this will usually fix the problem.

If the brakes have a light squeal when the pedal is not pressed, but goes away when it is pressed, this is usually the wear indicators on the brake pads.

Not all brake pads are of the same "hardness" for lack of a better word. A "softer" pad will eliminate the squeaking but will also wear out faster.

Buy factory pads and the noise will stop. I put the hi-dollar Raybestos pads on my Tahoe and they squeaked so bad that I was embarrassed to stop next to other cars.

Put factory pads on and never had the problem again.
