I'm considering building a centrino notebook based on the Northgate M8060 widescreen barebone. How much more complicated is building a laptop than a regular desktop PC?

Please share your experiences. Any tip or suggestion is appreciated:)

Which model did you put together? I'm thinking of using the Northgate M8060 with DVDRW. Could you elaborate on your experience. Please list the materials that you've used. Also please let me know where you purchased the parts.

Thanks.

Cheers to that!

Just how 'barebones' can you get them? I really want to shop around for cheapest components, a case/mobo/LCD would be great... I would prefer AMD! :)

Not quite barebones, unless I missed something. And it's $1,700.00 to boot.

I could get the M8060 without the CPU, Harddrive, & memory but with the DVD/CDRW combo drive for $923.

There are plenty of barebone notebook for the AMD platform. They are usually around $700, no memory, cpu & harddrive.

And what the heck is the point then you pay $300 for a zippy HD and $200 for Mem and $250-$350 for CPU
now your talking $1450 to $1750 anyway besides that hardly what i would consider builing it myself
