Has anyone had to deal with Sony Tech support?

Was wondering if anyone has ever delt with Sony for repair/replacement on a PS2? We got my son one of the PS2 bundles with the network adapter, (his original PS2 bit the dust), and I decided to hook up the network adapter for him to play online. So, after running a drop into his room and spending way too much time in the attic fishing wires down the walls and installing a box in his room, it doesn't work! :|

I tested all the wiring using a laptop and it works fine. The only way the playstation recognizes the connection is if I hold in the cable at the adapter. I inspected the receptacle on the PS2, and some of the contact bars are shallow, so I pulled them up. Worked for a few minutes until they fell back down. So I know its the adapter.

I need to call Sony I guess and try to get them to replace it, we got it in May. Anyone have any experience with dealing with Sony??

Thanks

Guess nobody has had to. I could not get a replacement, so I decided to take it apart and see what I could do. I replaced the existing terminal with one from the drop boxes I bought for the rooms. Used my multi-meter to make sure I had the right wires for each prong, and it worked! :D

Doesn't look pretty, but it works and once the PS2 is back in the tv stand, you wont see it anyway. I am going to attach it to the back so it's not just hanging there. Here is a pic:

I'm just glad I didn't need to spend anymore $$ to get him online again.

The easy way would be to buy another one and return the original as defective. I don't find that being wholly unethical since you're telling them its broken.

I have heard about a few people who have had problems with the PS2. I have never heard of Sony helping anyone. In all cases, people had to buy new or deal with the problem(s).

I thought about that. Just didn't seem right to me. I know I could have easily done it at Wallyworld with no problem at all. Oh well, it worked and it was sort of fun :)

Unethical is a black/white issue - I don't remember there being gradients.

THis was our second PS2. I was one of the nut jobs that camped out all night to get one of the first ones. Lasted about 2 years. Lets see how long this one lasts.

All this for my kids, I don't even play games anymore!
