Has anyone had any problems with their redesigned Ps2?

And has anyone found a way to actually turn it off other than unpluging it from the wall? Mine stays on stand-by I suppose you would call it, with the red light on. Anyway I was playing online and it just froze up. The controller didn't stop buzzing, the music sort of got put on *hold*...do I have a defective Ps2? It's one of the new ones, ultra slim, model no. 70012 CB. Anyone else having problems with yours?

I first thought it might have been a over heating issue, but I played 40+ minutes straight, before it froze after 20, didn't freeze. BTW, I was playing ATV Offroad Fury 2 online, and I was hosting the game, since the freeze I have only tried joining games, not hosting them. I want to see if that makes a difference, and so far it appears to be working. I'll have to see if I get more freezes, and if anyone else has one of these new versions please post here, if it doesn't work or even if it works just fine.

I think only gamestop has them right now. I went to best buy and asked the tech guy if they had these in stock yet and he started talking about the PSX. 😕

does the new style ps2 not have a power switch on the back for the PSU?

does it only freeze for that particular the game? maybe its just a network connectivity issue?

just as an example when doing system link on my xbox with halo over a router sometimes when the connection was bad the game would just freeze up...although that was an xbox example and not ps2

hopefully there aren't game bugs and incompatibilities with the new model.

fyi toys r us has the pstwo in stock now as well...or at least the ones in my area do

No the new one doesn't have a power switch on the back. 🙁 Anyway, I just got off with the Sony tech girl and she said the new PSTwo is more sensitive to codes when playing online, and suggested that I clear the profile I was using codes in and reinstall the network drivers. I actually cleared the whole memory card, and then reinstalled the network drivers, and now it works just fine so if your having problems with your PSTwo online, try that.

Glad to hear your problem got solved.

btw, how do you like your new redesigned ps2? does it load any faster compared to the old one becuz i heard rumors that games loaded faster. and how heavy is that baby compared to the old one?

I'm in love with it. 😀 It's way smaller, 1/4 of the size of the normal one, and 1/2 the weight. I don't know about faster loading times...I've not noticed anything. But then again, the last time I played a game on it was like 2 weeks ago so I couldn't really tell you for sure. But yeah, it's totally worth it if you take your PS2, you know, traveling I suppose. It's not much bigger then a paper-back book, just a little thicker. (1 inch to be exact.)

Wow, didn't realize that it was actually *that* small. I'm looking forward to it, the older PS2 was kind of clunky. The lack of a real power switch is kind of disappointing though.

Any idea if the "swap magic" discs work on the new model, seeing as how it's sporting a factory-installed "flip-top"?

(Note: I'm not condoning piracy here, I like to use backups of my original games. If you wonder why, I'll point you to my heavily-scratched and now-unreadable original (not Greatest Hits) copy of Tekken 3 for the PSX. Likewise with my copy of "In the Hunt" for my Saturn.)

I can't get pics right now to show you how small it really is, but I will get some later today when I have time. So stay tuned, we'll be right back! 😛
