My wife rented a wheelchair for my 30th b-day...we went to several NYE parties that night...with me in the chair.

(old and decrepit)

My wife is a huge Green Bay fan, so I got tickets to a Packers home game. We flew out to Green Bay, saw the game, crashed at a hotel and flew back the following morning.

I made sure that everyone that knew it was my birthday didn't bother me about it, went to work as normal, went home after and played some TF2.
Was the best birthday ever.

Thinking about throwing a hotel party (ie rent a suite in a hotel and throw a party), thoughts?

Call her girlfriends and ask them to plan a girls weekend (spa, Vegas, whatever). Your gift is to pay for her weekend with the girls.

Then you take her to dinner with just the two of you.

Win for both of you.

my wife threw me a surprise 30th bday party that i had no clue about. went to a buddies house to play poker with the boys and she was supposed to be shopping with her mom. i walked in with a 2 liter of coke, some chipotle, captain morgan, and wearing sweatpants to 30+ people screaming SURPRISE!

ended up being a really good time.

EDIT:

this year we're going to vegas for her 30th.

o_O Are you dating my fiance? Because I just had to do that for my fiance last weekend on Saturday D:

Anyhow, we just took her out for a nice dinner with friends all around the table. Approx 8 people total. 30th birthday is like "Congratulations! You just crossed the line where getting older is definitely no longer fun!"

Took her to Vegas and invited a bunch of her (and some of mine) friends. Nice dinners, couple of nights out and lounging during the day. Balled out for a few days had a great time she better never forget it.

tie in a fur coat that you deliver to her on the night in vegas and you would be a baller. Most ladies would wear the fur coat in vegas anyway since the hotels are so damn cold

I had BBQ with my mom and girlfriend. Don't really understand parties for people out of grade school.

aren't you a bartender?

and you don't understand how people out of grade school can party?

/confused

You are confused because you read it wrong. He didn't ask why adults party, he said throwing parties for people out of grade school is what he doesn't understand. In other words birthday parties are for children.

I tend to agree. It's just an excuse to get hammered and you're all adults. You don't need an excuse. You can call your friends and get hammered together every night if you wanted.

i don't see anything wrong with someone trying to set up a night of partying for their SO based on a yearly event like a birthday, and a 30th bday is a tad more special than turning 27 or something else.

it has nothing to do with an excuse to drink.

Wife said she wanted to be on a beach on her 30th. We flew down to Florida and stayed for a little over a week. The Siesta Key beach we'd seen there before was pretty nice, and our previous trips kept getting cut short by losses in the family.

My 30th, I bought some stuff for myself, but as the wife was 8 months pregnant, we didn't do much of anything.
