Has anyone gotten lasik eye surgery?

Yeah so I am interested in getting this but I've read a ton of horror stories as if it is worse suffering than death and stuff. I know of 2 friends who have gotten it and they are ok but their eyesight was much better than mine...only around a -4 or -5.

I got a -9 and -8.75 with a ton of astigmatism so I am pretty worried about complications and stuff.

Anyone know anything about this?

My HS biology teacher got lasik done (this was years ago) and he swears by it. He had terrible vision before hand, afterwards he had better than 20/20.

They even taped the procedure so he could show it to us in class
