Has anyone extended the cable length of their ORiNOCO USB Adapter?

Hi there...

I am about to setup a wireless network using ORiNOCO USB adapters on the dekstop PC's. The adapter comes with a 3.5ft cable on it, so I was wondering if anyone has used USB extensions on these (about 10ft, plus the 3.5 stock) and if they lost any speed in doing so? I'm not actually sure if I _need_ to extend it or not, but here is the scenario if anyone has any ideas:

I have a desk with a shelf above it and the computer is inside the cabinet in the desk. If I do not extend the cable, I will need to put the adapter on the dek itself to the far left side. The AP is located on the lower floor and about 20 ft horizontally from this desk. Now, I wanted to extend the cable to get line of sight to the AP, assuming you forget about the floor in between, but if I don't move it, there is an edge of a door in the way (really not much, just a corner blocking the line of sight). So, I want to make sure I get max throughput, but I'm not sure if I should extend the cable (and risk having the length slow the device down) to move it over and up 2 feet (has to be a 10 ft cable because it would have to be run behind the desk and to the top shelf), or if I should leave it with the door blocking its path...?

If anyone understood any of that, let me know what you think 🙂

Thank you very much!! 😀

Heh, I'd just get some sticky pads and stick it on the outside of the desk. But that is assuming you don't have anything crammed up next to it 🙂

Extending the USB cable has more to do with USB spec than anything else.
As long as you don't violate any USB specs (max cable length in the entire bus, upstream port vs. downstream port, etc.) you should be fine.
