Has anyone experienced something like this?

It was my freshman year in college in the dorms. It was just my roommate and me in a room, which was about 15'X10'

Anyway, I woke up during the middle of the night suddenly one night and I noticed that I couldnt move my body, it felt like someone or something was sitting on top of me...

I could move my eyes, but I couldnt even raise my voice. I tried calling my roommate right across the room, but all I could muster was a whisper.

I freaked out and prayed, and somehow, I fell asleep.

I told this to my friends and they told me a ghost was sitting on top of me 🙁

Anyone else experienced something like this?

I had a dream of this happening, I woke up totally freaking out. Luckly my GF was there to calm me down.

I have not experienced it, but I've heard of it. Its called sleep paralysis. Do a google on it and you'll get some pretty interesting information.

I heard of a story like that on one of those haunted house documentries. You should do some research into your school and find out if anything strange happened back in the day...might be interesting!

yeah, sleep paralysis.

I've read about it but never experienced or even heard about anyone who have had it. Must be a pretty scary feeling?

I'd be pretty freaked out myself.

actually its a condition called "Sleep Poralisis" its happened to me 2 times. first tiem was scary as sh!t. second time wasent as bad cause i knew what was happening. just stay calm and dont think about it itll go away.

there was a discussion about this on here a while ago. someone else expirenced it

yeah i've had that a few times before...first time scared the crap out of me, but the next few times I knew what was going on and was able to get myself out of it. I think it was called sleep paralysis or maybe night terrors...basically your body is semi paralyzed when it's asleep for safety reasons (ie you won't act out your dreams or something). But sometimes, you will wake up before your body gets out of the sleep paralysis, so you're semi-conscious, but you can't really physcially move.

It is a scary experience b/c for me, when that happened, scary thoughts started to come into mind and I could see them appearing in my room cuz I was half asleep/awake. Don't sweat it though, if it happens again, just close your eyes and go back to sleep. Or you could do what I did and count to 3 and with all your strenght, jerk your body, you'll come out of it once you do.

at least u didn't wake up with ur roomie violating u or something.

That what I thought he was going to say.

But seriously, yes I've had this happen to me a couple of years ago. Having yours arms and/or legs "fall asleep" can be a sign of a potassium deficiency. This past summer I worked for a landscaping company. This means by 9 o' clock in the morning your clothes are soaked in sweat, which would be the cause of a lack of potassium. Anyway, there wasn't a night that went by that I would wake up and my arms and legs couldn't move.

I never encountered a situation where I couldn't move my entire body, but there were times where I couldn't move my shoulder at all. First time when it happened I just went ,"WTF!!!" and fell back to slepp 😀. But this is pretty freaky!

yep, that happened to me once during the day. Scared the living crap out of me because i could feel the contour of a body laying on me, but i think its probably sleep paralysis.

then this once, while sleeping, i felt something slapped my head really hard.

and this other time,i heard whispering on my left ear, twice that night.

Happened to me at least once a week from age 10-12. Always dismissed it as a dream, interesting to find out its a real thing.

I think it has happened to me but only for a short amount of time. It was always at the end of a dream too, it was like I was out of the dream but I hadn't woken up yet, so I started to try to wake up, you know, open my eyes and move around but I couldn't. It only lasted for maybe a minute tops.

Some believe it's a choking ghost, others like to believe it's called sleep paralysis.

My college neurobiology professor said that when you dream, your brain releases a chemical that basically paralyzes you. Probably to keep you from sleepwalking off a cliff or into a sabre-tooth tiger. As with any drug, it takes a while to flush out of your system. I'd guess that this causes "sleep paralysis."

And I've experienced it for a few seconds after waking up. And even incorporated the feeling into some dreams (e.g. I've dreamt that I'm running, but it's really hard to move my legs and arms, and I can't get away from the bad guys chasing me, and I keep trying to run but I can't for some reason, it's like running through treacle, and then I wake up and I sometimes I have trouble breathing, then I realize the pillow is on my face, and it takes a few seconds to be able to get my hands to move the pillow). 🙂

this happens to me atleast a couple times a year. half time time (well, more than that) it's a nightmare coming into reality. try to scream but can't, try to move but can't, only thing that will wake me up is if i concentrate and try to jerk my body so i wake up (and usually end up having a nice migrain when i do that). it sucks but i've gotten used to it.

when its a nightmare i'll either feel or hear someone in the room with me breathing on me or something like that, one time it was some creature over my shoulder, the other time it was "death" / grim reaper, the other time it was a bright light.. its always just something in the room with me (in the actual room that i'm in, not a dream world)..

it's funky.

edit; the grim reaper one was wheen i fell asleep in my chair, this like dimension opened up and i saw it there looking at me but when i jerked /woke up fully it disappeared.. its freaky man
