Has anyone ever worked for UPS?

I made it in the second round of a supervisory position at a UPS sorting/(hub?) station. I am just curious as to how good they are to their employees, I will be attending school while I work (part time position) and supervisory experience is great for engineers as well. All in all, I hope it will be a good fit but I need to know about the company :)

Not sure. But I hear they have a fantastic stress-reduction program for their employees...

...it involves a big parcel, lots of kicking, and invariably ends in sending that parcel through the crushing jaws of a conveyor belt!

I used to work for UPS as a sorter/loader while in college. It paid ok and everyone and UPS was nice. Good benefits too. But be warn, the job is touch and you are always moving and expect to move packages fast and faster <the trailers and work areas can be very hot in the summer>. If you are in decent shape and you like to get a good work out, then give it a try.

If you are going as a supervisor then you must already be working for them. They only promote from within.

The supervisor position is ok if you want to be a manager. The pay is not as good as a regular worker. Benefits dont change. They do a nice job of keeping you on a schedule and committed.

The only thing I know about UPS is that UPS drivers get paid very well.

No, they are interested in hiring me because they didnt have a qualified candidate already working there at a lower level.

Some of my former students work for them as drivers. They like it, say the pay is good, and that it's not too stressful, just at the busiest times of the year - Christmas, etc.

No A/C though. :(

I know for a fact that Airborne Express drivers get A/C, but I don't believe the pay is as good.

I've had 3 friends there. Okay pay, ok hours. Drivers get paid well, but people usually start in the warehouse.

True, that's why they get to wear those cute brown shorts though. :)

I went for a first interview there today, actually.

I was excited because I figured even though it would be hot as hell, it would be something good to get the blood moving and make a great job with great benefits. No such luck.

The only way they would hire you is as part time, 4 hours a day, 5 days a week. Since it's unionized, the ONLY way to get full-time positions is to have seniority when they open up. Which means that work performance means squatt to them and as long as you don't get fired, you're doing fine. I don't like that idea.

There would be no benefits until you're there for 6 months. That's understandable, but stupid. I'll just hope that I don't need insurance for anything during that 6 months where I'm only working 20 hours a week. Grand.

It would be cool as a second job, but no way in hell would I try to start a career there unless I was still in high school.
