Has anyone ever taken tires to walmart to get tires mounted?

A kid at one of the local walmarts said that they'd mount tires that I brought in for about $8 a piece including disposal and stems...

Is that really going to happen?

I'd expect to pay 60$ for the whole job normally...

$8 is a pretty kickass price for all that. Cheapest I've ever found was $17/wheel

WOW

I always get price matched to a local place so I have never paid more than $15

They take cash, ATM or CC. They won't mount you for a tire.

Yes!

I told my friend to take his car there to get his tires mounted, since alot of local SCCA people have had good luck with them.

They destroyed 2 of the rims (deep gouges in them)

Their insurance company paid my friend full dealer retail price for both of the rims they ruined.

Oh, and they mounted one of the tires backwards, too!

He got the wheels refinished for $50 and pocketed about $800.

My uncle took his car to Walmart for an oil change.

They forgot to put the oil in.

They didn't do anything about it.

YMMV.

It's pretty bad when you go somewhere to get an oil change and you just get a flush

LOL OMG, DO NOT DO THIS

I bought tires from tirerack.com last week and made the terrible mistake of taking them to walmart to have them mounted this weekend. Let me list the ways they screwed up;

1) the tires were directional and they mounted one backwards, so it was turning the wrong way.
2) shuddering at freeway speeds, which led me to recheck the torque, and the lug nuts on one wheel was quite loose. Good thing the wheel did not fall off on the freeway.
3) after retightening, the shuddering was still present, so i took it to an america's tire shop to have them look at it. I suspected the balancing was done incorrectly and when they put in on the balancer, the guy told me it was reading off and walmart used the incorrect size wheel weight to balance it.
4) the guy at the tire shop pointed out they didn't change my valve stems (still old and dirty looking) even though i specifically asked them to do so. Also they left a valve cap off.

Take it to a reputable tire shop to have them mounted, it'll only cost a couple bucks more. At best it can save you a hassle, at worst, it can save you from your wheel falling off while on the freeway, lol.

Yes, because every single worker at every Wal-mart will mess up your tires..

Do you own stock in walmart or something? I HIGHLY doubt a store that carries every product known to man will be specialized enough in car care, that they can compete (quality wise) with actual car shops/dealerships etc.

Think about it, when you go to walmart you buy products that you already know about that you can get as cheap as possible. You don't go their for their quality service/products. Or if you do, you're a moron.

My local walmart has the same policy. They won't touch tires that were purchased elsewhere.

My local walmart told me it was about a 3 hour wait on getting tires mounted last time I went there... I drove 200 yards to a B.J.'s wholesale, paid about $10 more total for 4 tires (better tires though), and had absolutely no wait.

I do know enough to check all the work done on my car at Walmart (or anyplace for that matter) before I leave the lot. Wayyyy too many stories about problems with the local walmart... Personally, I had them (I have no idea how they managed it) cause an emergency brake line to rub against the wheel while I was driving.
