Has anyone ever stayed at The Westin Casuarina Las Vegas?

I accidentally won a room there for this upcoming weekend (and feel like I overpaid on priceline for it - $119/night, for a total of $271.86) and neither my husband nor I have ever heard of this place.

Has anyone ever stayed there? If so, what is it like and how far is it from the Strip?

EDIT: What a pleasant surprise! The hotel was in a terrific location, about 2 blocks from the strip, right near Bally's. It has a very unassuming exterior, but the customer service was superb and we received a card for $20 of free slot play for being guests of the hotel (ended up winning $35 from the card without spending a penny!).

The hotel rooms were small but neat, and the king-size heavenly bed was fantastic. There were plenty of pillows, including 4 down pillows of various firmness which were incredibly comfortable. The shower wasn't anything special, but we were really impressed by the bed and the setup.

The cleaning service also deserves a mention - we left for a show in a hurry, and when we returned we found our room spotless... our clothes that we had left lying around were even folded neatly and placed at the foot of the bed, and our toiletries (hairbrush, toothbrush, etc.) that we had left scattered around were also arranged very neatly. Even some spare change that had fallen on the floor as we were rushing out the door was stacked up neatly on the table, not a penny gone!

We were impressed by the service, location, and accomodations, and especially happy about the fact that no smoking is allowed in any of the hotel rooms (both my husband and I are extremely allergic to smoke). We really enjoyed our stay, and will definitely be staying there again in the future given the price, location, and service.

i stayed there about 2 years ago. it's right on the strip behind a few buildings. i think it's sweet because it's cheap but still very accessible. and the beds are "heavenly"

for location is basically right next to bally's

"Heavenly" beds, how intriguing! Thanks for the review, is it themed at all or is it just a regular/normal hotel?

Although I see that they ARE having some $99/night specials...

Argh, I think we overpaid. :( Oh well. I was hoping for a hotel right on the strip, and am surprised this hotel is considered a 4-star one on Priceline!

It's a regular hotel with a small casino area. The heavenly beds and heavenly showers are amazing. They also have a great breakfast buffet that is reasonably priced. You are very close to the strip, but off just enough that it's quiet and peaceful. You probably overpaid a little for it (I got it on Priceleine a couple of years for $65/night), but at this point all you can do is make the most of it and enjoy the heavenly rooms.

Unless it's vastly different from the other westin's in the chain, it IS a 4 star hotel...The "Westin Heavenly Bed" is a trademarked name, and fits them very nicely...

You might have overpaid, but it is definitely a 4star. It is close enough to the strip that you probably won't be disappointed. I would say it is closer to the actual strip than some of the big "on the strip" resorts.

In the future check the forums at Bidding for Travel, they have lists of all possible hotels in all possible areas and star ratings divided by cities, it's pretty handy.

And you can purchase them through Westin.

We just returned from Vegas. Here is our review of the hotel:

Glad to hear you had a good experience. We travel a lot for pleasure, and stay at Westins when we can, or Sheratons when we have to. Anything less is "roughing it"... ;)

Thanks BoomerD, we were pleased as well and would definitely recommend the Casuarina in Vegas if you ever find yourself in need of a hotel in the area. LOL about your idea of "roughing it," that's the way to live! :)

Via priceline, I won a bid of $119/night for a Friday and Saturday evening. Definitely not the hottest deal, but I'm glad we found this gem of a hotel through it and we'll be back again someday.

I stayed there when it first opened a couple of years ago. I also won via priceline but got it for about $55/night. I found the rooms to be smaller than most other hotels by the strip but the beds were definitely "heavenly" because it was soft and comfortable.

I'm actually going to Vegas this weekend.

WOW, $55/night? What a steal! Was that on a weekend or a weekday?

Have fun this weekend, we came out ahead about $70. If we manage we break even by the end of a Vegas trip, I consider it a win. :p

MrsBugi - I had the same experience. Went there 05 Labor Day - it's a very business oriented hotel, no frills, no real gambling or excitement as other hotels seem to have, but hey, it's right off the strip, next to all the "good" hotels anyway. :) The pool sucks though - despite the view, it goes to show that it's a business hotel and nothing more really.

I'd definitely stay there again.

I am happy to hear that you had a positive experience as well, RagingBITCH. I didn't mind the minimal frills in exchange for such comfort and comstuer service. All of the frills, gambling, and excitement could be found just a few blocks away on the Strip - we usually drive from hotel to hotel anyway, so it worked out just fine. :)

We didn't have a chance to check out the pool since it was actually pretty chilly when we were there (low/mid-70's, not ideal conditions for laying out in our suits) but I would imagine it might pale in comparison to the Mandalay Bay, etc. Thanks for the heads up, I guess we weren't missing out on much. I heard that the gym on the 2nd floor is free for everyone to use, did you get the chance to check that out?

We'll be back, too!
