No. I have had a Western Digital go bad too bad so sad and a Maxtor as well. The only item that was ever replaced no questions asked was by AMD. They were very quick to do a complimentary replacement cpu. (not that it helps you any )
If you have a receipt that states when you bought it, which is later than the built date on the drive, some of the manufacturers will warranty it. Otherwise they fall back to the build date and that's it.
Western Digital and Maxtor wouldn't RMA ones that I got hold of - 3 months and 6 months after warranty. - BUT this is in the UK - most other places you have rights.
