Has anyone ever replaced the gas flap on a car?

do you mean the little door/cover that covers the gas cap?

i am sure you can get one at a bone yard

i got new seats for my mazda for only $75 and a new rear bumper or $125 , they are in very good condition

a gas door thingy should be cheeeeap
 
What year, make and model is your car? The new OEM ones aren't usually very expensive. Then again, you'll have to get really lucky to find one the same color, and even then it probably won't match, you'll probably see a slight difference in color.

I have the original, but the hinges are broken.

You can buy just the hinge from the dealer for $14.50. The part number is 51 17 1 928 197.

Doing it this way you won't have to repaint the fuel filler door.
