HAS ANYONE EVER READ A PRAYER FOR OWEN MEANY? ;)

I just finished it moments ago. I read the World According to Garp last summer and about a week ago my girlfriend suggested a Prayer for Owen Meany. In my opinion, it's one of the best books I've ever read. It's by John Irving, who wrote the Cider House Rules (which I've never read or seen). Anyway, if you haven't read it, I strongly suggest doing so. If you have, what do you think?

One of my favorite books - had to read it for summer reading before my junior year.

The copy I read wasn't mine, nor was garp. But when I get home, I plan on buying them just to have them.

A Prayer for Owen Meany was so powerful....I got all choked up at the end. That's never happened to me before.

I started reading it but didn't really get into it. Irving's stuff is either hit or miss with me. I loved World According To Garp and Hotel New Hampshire, though.

Well, Garp was the first Irving book I've read, so I'll check out The Hotel New Hampshire. Thanks!

Contrary to the rest of the thread, I hated that book so much. However I read it 2 years ago (I was 16) and I really didn't understand good literature. I don't think I will be reading it again, though. For some reason, Irving doesn't appeal to me that much.

He's a got a sense of dark irony/humor in his books that I've read. Did you like Catcher in the Rye?

Catcher In The Rye is a great book. Methinks I'll have to pull that out again after I finish the book I'm currently reading.

NO I HAVNT< HAVE YOU EVER READ A PRAYER FOR THOSE WHO DONT KNOW HOW TO TURN OFF CAPS LOCKS?

I liked Owen Meany greatly.

I would suggest Cider House Rules. It take awhile to get into it, but I loved the story and the doctor. I like Irving but his books are sometimes hard to get into. I had to force myself to keep reading Cider House Rules. Then, about 100-200 pages in, I couldn't put it down. He's great at setting up characters and developing them.

Also, I didn't care for the movie versions of Owen or Cider House. Neither were bad, but I think both took liberties that hurt the story in my opinion. Garp is a good movie. Haven't seen Hotel New Hampshire, yet.
