Has anyone ever hear of a company called Arbitron?

What would you do?

  • Take the bait and, hopefully, 5 more dollars (along with the additional junkmail)

  • Take the 2 dollars and consider yourself lucky

I just got a piece of mail from them that caught my eye for sure. I opened what I knew was junk mail and two dollar bills dropped into my lap. I looked at the letter and it seems to be a TV/radio ratings company. You do this survey and they send you 5 more dollars. I'm pretty sure they got my information because I donate to Minnesota Public Radio.

I guess my question is this: Do people really do these things? What would you do?

I work in retail so I think I'm going to bring these bills in to check with a counterfeit pen just for giggles. They pass my test and who would bleach a bill and put a 1 on it?!

It's legit. They have been doing ratings for decades. And you were chosen randomly, not from any donations you might have made. The whole point to being able to generate meaningful ratings is to get a cross-section of everyone. They do not pick from any particular list.

My wife got the same mailer on Saturday. Unfortunately she left the two bucks on the kitchen counter and I swiped it and bought a coffee.

Arbitron is the scam of radio. They refuse to include pandora / internet radio listeners in their ratings. If they were included Pandora would be at the top for listeners in almost every major market.
