How would you go about telling your spouse or SO that you have just won the lottery, say 100mil. I've often thought how exciting that would be, and various creative ways to do it. I think before I told her, I'd arrange to rent a villa in Greece where we could go for a few weeks to decompress and figure out what our future would be. I'd then arrange to go to a nice restaurant, and tell her we won, and that we are leaving on a plane the next morning.
Packing quick wouldnt concern me as much, since we could just buy anything we forgot. I guess I'd have to put the whole trip on credit cards since I wouldnt have the money yet.

How about you??

I would buy a pig. And after she says "where the hell are we gonna put it" I'll show her the farm that I also bought.

Her: OMGWTFBBQ! I'm so excited! I can't decide what to wear! What should I pack?"
Me: I don't care. Whatever you need. Just be gone by the time I get home!"

Krunchy, you seem to like pigs quite a bit. You don't like them too much, do you? :D

I fantasize about winning the lottery more than I fantasize about how I'd inform people that I'd won.

They are honestly my favorite animal. I go to the state and county fairs every year just to play with the pigs. Im 24 years old and I have pig calenders and all this pig crap. I even have a pig calender in my cubicle. :)

I wouldn't tell her right away...I would get up for work one day just like usual in the morning, and go to "work". I'd then take the day off at the very least, if not quit all together, and go get her her dream car...a 2007 Eclipse Spyder Convertible (not the most amazing car, but hey, this is my fantasy!! :p). I'd then spend the rest of the day out shopping for clothes, computer parts, get myself a new car, etc. etc. Then at the end of the day when I usually get off, I'd go home and drive up in my current car (by this time I would have had both our new cars driven and parked at a local park). We'd go about business as usual, go for a ride, and end up at the park. From there, I'd give her the keys to her new car, now full of gifts for her. We'd then both drive away in our new toys :p

After that day, I'd curtail my spending a bit, but still have fun :)

edit: Damn, there were a lot of typo's in there

My wife will be the one helping me build the time machine required to get future lottery numbers. She'll have to know ahead of time about our future winnings happening in the past of which would then be the present.

I'd personally be wary of a sudden spending splurge. It seems that would quickly taper the euphoria after winning. I'd start slow. I'd try to find a way to forestall taking the money for granted, at which point it's not even fun anymore.

File divorce paper offering 50% of all assets and her 1st pick on all communal property. Sign papers 2 months later.

A month later she could see the report on the TV news. :)

Never really thought about how I'd tell people close to me. But I have definitely day dreamed at times about actually winning and how I'd handle a lot of things. Most involve managing the money, paying all debt off, early large purchases, living accommodations, taking care of family, traveling and how to selflessly let a few close friends enjoy my luck but not to the point of being taken advantage of.

Assuming I won several million, one of the first things I'd do is fly about 10 of my closest friends with me to somewhere really nice for a couple weeks, with all expenses paid by me of course. And I'd probably arrange something similar for family members on a separate trip.

As for the OP's question, I'd probably just call up my SO and be pretty blunt. I'm sure it would take a while for me to convince her I was actually telling the truth though.

I've thought about how I'd share money with friends, but I'm not quite sure how I'd do it. That would really mess with the dynamics of a friendship if one is giving large amounts of cash or gifts to the other. They would sort of feel beholden, which would be weird. Theres probably a reason most lottery winners seem to lose their existing friendships.

Wouldn't she still be able to lay claim to it? You were technically married when you "won" even though you didn't claim it til after you were divorced...

I found it on the street after the divorce.
