Has anyone ever contacted their representative?

I have been getting more and more frustrated with the state because of the failure of the unemployment system. I finally decided to email my representative and see if they could do anything to help me. I sent an email out yesterday with a basic description of my problem and today I got an email back asking for more information and telling me that they will look into it for me!

While it might not accomplish anything, its nice to know that they will take time out of their day to try to help the little guy.

About a year ago or so Nebraska was contemplating a state AWB. I wrote and said if it passed I'd close my business in the state and move. The governor wrote me back that he opposed such a bill and was glad I had taken the time to write him.

Still have his letter somewhere I think.

AWB?

I've contacted my House Representative a few times on issues that I deemed were important enough to make my opinion heard and he has responded. According to his website (after sending off the e-mail), it claims he'll personally respond. I've e-mailed my state senators two, but have only gotten form letters back and they only seem to want to do things against the best interests of NYS (like pushing for govt back flood insurance on Floridian coastal homes....).

I have wanted to write to my state government reps at times, but I haven't given much thought on how to nicely say "You guys are a bunch of fucktards and need to stop blowing money on bullshit."

WTF? Nebraska? I thought Midwest was pretty conservative?

I contact elected people all the time to show my opposition when some anti-gun bill is trying to get passed.

Yeah, there's a great chance of any anti-gun legislation passing in Nebraska. Especially now that Chambers is gone.

All I ever get are letters saying how they understand my concerns but don't really give a shit.

With the exception of Omaha, the state is generally slightly to the right of Rush Limbaugh.

I sent my MP one against the copyright law proposals they were pushing federally. All I got back was a form letter about why the changes to the copyright law are the best thing since sliced bread. Oh, I also got a 15 page document further telling me how amazing the proposed changes to copyright law were.

In his form letter it didn't even have a 'I understand your concerns, but...' it just simply went into how I was wrong. Asshole.

i have contacted my reps numerous times via fax and have mostly had good luck. i hit all of mine and jon kyl was kind of a weenie and said that since i had asked the others for help, that should be sufficient. the others were mccain and hayworth, fwiw.

i probably have 30+ letters back to me from them offering assistance which did help since i was dealing w/ federal issues at the time. it is nice to know they do actually do stuff if you take the time to write.

i feel my next campaign will be for this bailout and the impending permanent awb that obama wants to push down our throats, although fbi stats show the old awb didn't do anything, so there is no need for a new awb unless their desire is to keep the ground uneven for the law abiding citizen.

I emailed a state representative once about gun legislation. It went back and forth a few times, but he stopped responded when he couldn't answer my questions.

they don't like facts when it comes to guns, just stupid rhetoric that they heard from some other person

from the words of a anti-gunner:

The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to permit the conquered Eastern peoples to have arms. History teaches that all conquerors who have allowed their subject races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by doing so.

-- Adolf Hitler (1889-1945), April 11, 1942, quoted in Hitlers Tischegesprache Im Fuhrerhauptquartier 1941-1942. [Hitler's Table-Talk at the Fuhrer's Headquarters 1941-1942], Dr. Henry Picker, ed. (Athenaum-Verlag, Bonn, 1951)

Yes, he was trying to pass magazine capacity legislation in Illinois. Where most firearm crimes occur in Chicago, where handguns are illegal to own.

So if you own an illegal weapon, and are using it to commit a crime, do you really think you care about a magazine capacity charge that they'll tack on?

Of course that is where you can score tickets to the Whitehouse.

I have also emailed my senators and representatives about a number of issues. I usally get the canned email back. I sent a ton of emails about the financial bailout and I am surprised I am not on thier spam list.
