Has anyone ever Conducted a Raffle before

Are there any kind of tax laws or anything that I should be aware of before I start thinking about this?

This is all Hypothetical right now
I am thinking of having a raffle on my website for a Alienware Laptop.. $25 per ticket with a limit of how many tickets would be sold. A certain amount of tickets must be sold in order for raffle to take place (to cover cost of laptop)

Anyone have any thoughts about this?

Nope. Everything was done strictly on a donation basis.

I think, that in most cases, you cannot call it a raffle unless you are a non profit or somethign, has to do with taxes like you said. Call it a silent auction or something, or a 'donation' with a chance to win "this fabulous prize."

Yeah but a silent auction would collect $$ from only one person.. Maybe the donation route is how I should go

I think that you will have a very hard time doing it online IMHO. People are hard enough to get to buy raffle tickets when they know it's for a legit cause.
