I work for NTL and we always get customers complaining about there modem connections either dropping off or too slow blahblah but 95% of the time it is nothing to do with a fault just customer education on drivers ect., but, a collegue of mine has just had a customer who's internet connection would drop off after 20 secs of connecting. He went to have a look but the customer said that she had fixed it herself, when he asked how she said that she had adjusted the display properties and it now worked fine! He asked to be shown as he found it hard to believe so she demonstrated. She set her display to 32bit and sfter 20 secs the modem dissconnected, he tried it 5 times and exactly the same fault occured. She then turned the display down to 16 bit and it stayed connected, went back to 32 bit and it disconnected. Has anyone heard of that before? Just switching between 32 and 16 bit colour cured an internet connection problem?
I have no idea what type o pc it was.

1. It had to be a winmodem.
2. Most likley an AMD platform system.
3. Chipset drivers for the chipset were probably not installed.
4. Video Card possibly was sharing modem IRQ.
5. Video Drivers most likely outdated.

Basically a baddly configured PC. I would not use that as a solution.
