Has anyone ever bought or considered buying a car off Ebay or other online exchanges?

I would if I could either see it in person (it would have to be within a few hours drive), or it was from a reputable dealer that others had bought from on ebay, and they were happy with it.

We had some friends that bought an SUV in Florida (living in Indiana) through E-bay
They were pretty happy about the deal

Isn't about now the time somebody pops up with the link about the guy who got utterly screwed buying a BMW on ebay? To its defense he was very stupid about it (didn't even check the VIN, which would have alleviated ALL problems).

I bought my Olds Aurora off of ebay, and have been very happy with it. I talked to the seller, and asked for current pictures of the entire thing. Worked out very well, especially for never having actually seen the car in person before buying it.

the florida one?

My brother bought a motorcycle sight unseen off ebay... he just spoke with the seller on the phone before he bid on it... 3 years later and the bike still runs and he got a killer deal. He had to drive 5 hours to pick it up and the seller met him half way.

I am considering selling my Civic over an online exchange instead of getting raped by dealer over trade-in

You could go local...autotrader & paper.

I think eBay is a good place to sell rare vehicles.... but not daily-driving cars...

We have bought three cars off of ebay. Two Dodge Stealths and a BMW 540i.
How'd you do it? Local? Did you save a lot of money?
None of the cars were local. The Stealths were from Pittsburgh and Boston, while the 540i was from Phoenix.
